I was asked the following question yesterday:
You bought your son an expensive suit. He wore it a few times and got a small hole in the pants. You didn’t want it to get worse so you sent it to the cleaners to have a patch put on. Unfortunate the pants got lost in the cleaners. Now, not only are the pants gone, but the whole suit is worthless to me since you can’t find a matching pair of pants without replacing the whole suit. Can you demand that the cleaners pay you back the whole value of the suit? He claims he only owes you the value of what he lost which is a pair of worn pants with a hole in it.
